Side tracking ...

Having a long weekend in London planned for late November, I've been doing some research this morning about what we can get up to. Its all very exciting. It all came about because K chanced upon a stupendous opening offer for the new Hoxton Hotel in Shoreditch where they were offering a limited number of rooms for £1 a night for their first 3 months of business. We missed out on the £1 rooms as they went really quickly but we managed to get the bargain price of £29 a night. Usually we stay with friends in the outer suburbs when we visit London, so I will be an unusual experience for us to be in the thick of things. We've now booked our bargain Virgin train tickets, so all that is left is to check out whats on in the big smoke and enjoy the count down.

Its funny - I'm more looking forward to both this trip and a wedding early in Jan than I am to Christmas! I hate the way that I see pressure mount in people - having to get the perfect presents, spending more than they have; the parties and the need to have the perfect outfit, where everyone is battling in crowds, over consuming and pretending to be happy, if only for a short while until the glitter and the music and the revellry fades........ I fail to see Christ in any of this. It seems the true cause for celebration has been forgotten, although interestingly, last year two of the most cynical non believers of my family went along to midnight mass on Christmas Eve and plan to do so again making that part of their tradition. They might mock but what made them go on this occasion?

Sorry, I have completely lost my thread - I had planned to blog about my London plans but seem to have side tracked onto something completely unexpected. Maybe Christmas is just for the kids .......
