QUINTESSENTIALLY ENGLISH

K & I found a slice of quintessential Englishness today on our drive out in the country. We stumbled across a "Queens Fete" in a field in a tiny hamlet on the borders of Cheshire and Derbyshire.

There was bags of community spirit on display; cream teas for sale; men playing cricket in the field next door; a tombola; little girls dressed in 'princess' dresses; a brass band; home grown plant stall; a home made cake stall; beer tent; bouncy castle; families picnicing and a bric a brac stall. I bought some flap jack off a sweet old granny character and bought some little plants called "Cupids Dart" which I have just planted out on arriving home - lets see if they survive. All it really needed for the icing on the cake was pimms and lemonade but sadly I saw no evidence of any.

I took K on a kind of mystery tour today; nothing majorly exciting, just a drive involving a few stop offs here and there with lots of little walks. I loved it.

I'm off for a quick bite to eat now before heading off to a leaving party for a guy from church......he's off to Bristol which is a great city. Have loads of happy memories of the place.
