THE LOST 14 HOURS
On Thursday, rather crazily and on the spur of the moment, K & I decided to have a night out in our home town in Cumbria. Two of our friends were both playing that night, in separate bands, at an event they had put on. Also, our friends Kirsty & Dave were home visiting from Sydney and it was our only opportunity to catch up with them. So after getting home from work, we showered, dressed, hot footed it up the motorway, dumped a bag and the car at my mum's, grabbed a lift from my step-dad to the pub, enjoyed a great night out, taxied back to my mum's at 2 am (why do pubs have to be 24 hour now!!!), slept, got up at 6 am, cruised back down the motorway and then went straight to work. It was a brilliant night and so worthwhile being tired the next day having seen the lovely smiles on everyone's faces when we walked through the pub door.

BRITISH ART SHOW
On this, the last day of the British Art Show6 exhibition in Manchester, K & I checked out two of the six exhibiting venues, The Cornerhouse and Manchester Art Gallery. We did hope to make it to the Whitworth Gallery too, but as we got there a whole hour shy of its opening time at 1 pm, we went for lunch instead. The highlight of the day for me was Phil Collins' film El mundo no escuchara (2004). I'm going to pinch the spiel from the exhibition guide, as they review it so much better than I ever could.
"El mundo no escuchara was filmed in Bogota, Columbia, a place
commonly associated with corruption, guerrilla insurgency and drug
trafficking. Based on The Smith's album The World Won't Listen,
Colombian fans are shown singing along, karaoke style, to a backing
track recorded by a local band, against idyllic backdrops far removed
from the reality of their daily lives."

Some of the performances were simply hilarious and really grabbed my attention. Great stuff.
