The highs and lows of January

January is my least favourite month. Its doomed from the fore with the majority of folks suffering on 1 Jan from sugar lows/hangovers following the excess of the night before. It doesn't really have a chance. Then, most people are skint, feel down and can't afford to have nights out, thus exacerbating the feeling of being low.

However, this January has been different for me. Having not got completely ratted on NYE, I started out out a high. We had a great NYE, starting out the evening with a pop into A's house to meet his new girlfriend. We then made our way over to Jam Street Cafe. They only sold 50 tickets but this was enough to fill the place and give it atmosphere. You can't say more than arriving at a venue at 10 am to arrive to a reserved table, with bar space and free tapas awaiting your arrival! Its a great little bohemian quirky space and we all spilled out onto their outside terrace at midnight to watch the fireworks from a restaurant a few doors along, whilst having a free champagne cocktail handed to us. All in all a lovely evening. K decided to dance on his chair and it was some point after that we retired back to S & R's to sleep. L has promised to post a photo of our evening but as of the time of writing, I'm still waiting (if he gets around to it I'll re-post here).

We repaid the favour to S & R last night and had them over following what was a hard days' graft on the house for them. K made a comment that it was strange, the minute they get a car, they stay over and all that time of not having a car, they went home!!! Strange how things pan out isn't it. I left them in bed this morning and toddled off into work to do some overtime - it felt strange being in the office on a Sunday and the majority of the day I was on my own. Such peace and quiet. It remained so until alighting the train at Oxford Road on my journey home when I was greeted by hordes of United fans returning from a match. I don't know what the score was but I'm guessing they won from the looks on their faces. They should have won Aston Villa 3/4 to nil I reckon.

I didn't make any New Year resolutions, although on my first morning back at work on 2 Jan I decided that I would be positive and have a sunny outlook the whole day and do you know what, it really worked. By the end of the week I was waning a little bit but I was very impressed with myself. Well, someone has to be!

K's making curry downstairs and I really need to get out of my wet jeans (got soaked walking home from the station) and have a beer, so I'm off. J xx
