I have never known a walk to be so much fun! Last Sunday K & I went to the Peak District and started out on a planned long walk up onto Kinder Scout. The morning was beautiful - bright, warm and sunshiney and we set on our way. Unbeknown to us, the weather had other plans and just as we were approaching the top it started to rain. Soon the wind had whipped up into a frenzy and the rain turned into the heavy, driving sort. We huddled protectively behind some rocks (I noticed the sheep had the same idea over the othe side of the gully) and shared our flask and sandwiches, waiting out what we hoped was a shower! It soon became clear that it wasn't going to stop. We separated ways - I turned back down the hill with the rain driving into my back whilst K carried on the short, steep scramble to the top. He couldn't bear being so close and yet so far, whereas I, just having got over one summer cold, didn't want to get another. I enjoyed lots of good banter with other walkers I passed along the way back down, all as soaked as I. Waterproofs and boots were no barrier to that sort of rain. Then this crazy dog took it upon itself to run into me, head butting me. I lost my footing and very nearly ended up on my bum...the crazed animal. I don't think it liked me overtaking it. Such a laugh.
I have never been so glad to walk into a pub before, especially one as cozy and countrified as the one in Edale and had a huge smile on my face whilst I ordered a half pint and awaited K's return - he wasn't long, in fact I had only just ordered my drink when he came strolling in making me wish I had done his circuitous route
