Bezathon

Oh my life, what a bizarre lunch hour I had today. I tuned in to the first ever Manchester broadcast of XFM radio this morning. I half heard, amongst my morning dash, that Bez (of Happy Mondays fame) would be attempting a world record at 12.30 of how many people he could get dancing on stage with him playing the maraccas.

That I had to see, so I volunteered for the early lunch rota at work and piped up to Albert Square. Next thing I knew my legs somehow carried me into the queue of people waiting to pick up a pair of maraccas! I have no idea how, honest. On reaching the front of the queue, I signed my name and was handed a pair of colourful maraccas, a free XFM beanie and dummy lolly. Don't you just love freebies.

When Bez took to the stage and the first tones of the Happy Mondays strained over the PA, I joined in with a wide, colourful variety of people thronging in front of the stage - office workers, indie kid diehards, builders, wannabees and strutted my stuff and shook my maraccas like there was no tomorrow...well maybe not quite....see I wasn't alone at that point, my mate Jonesy having joined me.

I went back to work buzzing and with a huge smile on my face. Its great to have such random, shared moments and to tune out of real life, if only for a short while. Don't understand why Bez ever needed the drugs......
